In this article the author, from
his vantage point as an academic working
in public and secular university, presents
a series of reflections on the challenges
of universities that are recognized linked
to the Catholic Church, is to be defined as
Catholic or simply Christian inspiration.
The main problem of this is the identity
crisis which seriously hampers their evangelizing
mission. To resolve the crisis is
necessary to overcome the shameful Catholicism
in any of its forms, as well as
fragmentation of consciousness produced
by a culture that makes the human being
an object of use and abuse, dam of the dictatorship
of relativism, to the detriment of
dignity of every person. Only by overcoming
the identity crisis it can answer yes to
the challenge given by the Pope Francis, in
his Apostolic Exhortation on the joy of the
Gospel, to become authentic builders of
bridges of dialogue and encounter in a society
marked by plurality in educators disciples
and missionaries in the field of culture,
demonstrating the harmony between
faith and reason, and thus demonstrate the
importance of the Christian message for a
full and authentic life.
