Integration of Artificial Intelligence in education for the future

Abstract

UNESCO (2019) emphasizes the importance of inclusive, equitable and quality education for all. At the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Education, the need to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into teaching and learning to drive educational innovation was highlighted. The Interinstitutional Committee for the Evaluation of Higher Education, of Mexico, points out that AI is transforming the way educational institutions are studied, taught and managed, affecting study plans, support services and Internet access. According to ECLAC (2016), education must prepare students for a future where AI is omnipresent, not only integrating it into the educational process, but also providing competitive skills for a labor market. The integration of AI in education enables personalized learning and tutoring for autonomous learning. It helps minimize cognitive overload in exploratory learning environments, encouraging active construction of knowledge by students. This advancement will not only transform teaching and learning, but also improve labor competitiveness (OECD, 2021), posing new opportunities and challenges for education policies and stakeholders. The objective of
this work is to expose the implications of AI in higher education, promoting
its use and AI literacy.
