Abstract

A comparison is made of the revealed comparative advantages of a basket of 37 products, which the Mexican federal government classified as part of the 2016-2013 National Agricultural Planning, as an axis for the growth of agricultural activity. In order to know the existence of Revealed Comparative Advantages (RCAs), and their positioning in North America, the calculation of the Balassa index of the 37 products of Mexico, USA and Canada during the period 1990-2017 is carried out. The results indicate that Mexico has RCAs in 15/37 products: of which, 4 in basic products and 11 with market potential. The dependence of North American imports on basic products for human consumption is also evident.

Zoe Tamar Infante Jiménez es profesor-investigador titular “C” de la Facultad de Contaduría y Ciencias Administrativas de la Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, UMSNH. Tiene un doctorado en Ciencias del Desarrollo Económico Regional por la UMSNH, una maestría en Relaciones Internacionales por la Universidad de Guadalajara, estudios de maestría en Economía por el Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas, CIDE, estudios de maestría en Fiscal por la UMSNH y es licenciado en Economía por la Facultad de Economía de la UMSNH. Sus temas de experiencia académica son estrategia para el desarrollo, turismo, inversión extranjera directa y desarrollo del turismo.

Alejandro Javier López Villaseñor

Alejandro Javier López Villaseñor es estudiante del doctorado en Administración de la Facultad de Contaduría y Ciencias Administrativas por la Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, UMSNH. Tiene una maestría en Ciencias del Comercio Exterior y licenciatura en Comercio Internacional.
