Pre-lockdown COVID-19 research about the use of YouTube and adolescents

Abstract

Bibliographic research about the YouTube platform concerning adolescent’s uses were examined in this study. This study will allow having a reference point of the state before COVID-19 so that investigations after it have a point of reference regarding the changes and the relevance that the confinement meant in the use of digital technologies. In this case and in particular, about said platform. The methodology consisted of searching for documentation in scientific platforms, some repositories, and free access indexed journals, as well as their respective analysis by methodological, subject, and geographic categories. The results show the variety of topics discussed around the relationship between adolescents and the YouTube platform. Between 2015 and the beginning of 2020, 54 works related to the subject were detected in different regions. A predominance of qualitative studies was found, originating mainly in Europe, particularly in Spain and USA. In Mexico, only two publications have been detected so far. The international and national research on teens using YouTube is in an exploratory and descriptive state.
