Descenso de la tasa de fertilidad: causas, postulados católicos y “apertura a la vida”

Resumen

Desde hace medio siglo, la humanidad viene experimentando un descenso sostenido de su tasa de fertilidad Según informes recientes de la División de Población de las Naciones Unidas, es muy probable que hacia finales de este siglo comience un periodo de disminución de la población humana. En este artículo, identificamos y analizamos tres causas que explican, al menos en parte, el fenómeno del descenso de la tasa de fertilidad mundial: las dificultades económicas a las que se enfrentan las parejas jóvenes, los efectos de la revolución sexual y el espíritu de la época actual. Estas causas ayudan a explicar por qué las personas en edad reproductiva optan por no contraer matrimonios abiertos a la vida. También definimos seis requisitos que cualquier solución al desafío de la baja tasa de fertilidad debería cumplir desde una perspectiva moral católica y ofrecemos dos argumentos a favor de una postura de “apertura a la vida”.
