Volume 37, Issue 2 (2026) of Medicina y Ética presents a broad reflection on some of the most complex and current dilemmas in contemporary bioethics, approached from philosophical, clinical, legal, and social perspectives. Through seven articles, this edition examines issues related to assisted reproduction, extreme prematurity, the physician–patient relationship, the ethical formation of healthcare professionals, chronic hunger, transhumanism, and the medicalization of mental health. Collectively, the works emphasize the central role of human dignity as the foundation of bioethical analysis in the face of current scientific and technological challenges.

Among the topics discussed is the debate surrounding the fate of cryopreserved embryos resulting from assisted reproduction techniques and the ethical implications of their manipulation, as well as clinical decision-making in cases of extreme prematurity from the perspective of personalist bioethics and neonatal palliative care. This issue also introduces a critical reflection on medical gaslighting as a form of epistemic violence that invalidates the patient’s experience and undermines clinical trust. In addition, the thought of Gregorio Marañón is revisited to reflect on medicine as a moral vocation grounded in prudence, duty, and service to human dignity.

Other articles analyze chronic hunger as a possible non-communicable pandemic and its implications in terms of social justice and global responsibility, while also questioning transhumanist proposals that reduce ethics and the human condition to biomedical and technoscientific parameters. Finally, the edition addresses the debate surrounding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), the increasing use of psychostimulants, and the risks of overdiagnosis and medicalization driven by social and commercial interests.
