Media discomfort or political mobilization: an analysis of receptions in Mexico about the effects of negatively charged political messages on television

Main Article Content

Javier Sánchez Galicia

Abstract

In various academic investigations, negatively charged media content has been pointed out as being responsible for the anomie, apathy or political alienation of citizens, although there is also evidence that these messages could arouse interest in public affairs and encourage political mobilization. Based on a study of ex post facto receptions, the narratives of various groups of voters exposed to the television political spots broadcast during the federal election in Mexico in 2021 were analyzed, which allowed us to inquire about the political attitudes around the political forces that participated in the election. the contest.
